2026 KIA EV3: Electric Everyday Driving Made Affordable

September 17th, 2024 by

The 2026 KIA EV3 is a major milestone in KIA’s electric vehicle (EV) journey, a practical, balanced option for eco-friendly commuters. As an entry-level EV, the EV3 combines affordability with technology and a user-friendly driving experience to be a serious player in the growing EV market.

Powertrain and Performance
Under the bonnet, the 2026 KIA EV3 has a single-motor front-wheel-drive system. The 81.4kWh lithium-ion battery produces 201 horsepower and 209 lb-ft of torque, enough for daily driving. The EV3’s 0-62mph time of 7.5 seconds won’t thrill the adrenaline junkies but its smooth, comfortable ride makes it a great option for urban commuting. The suspension is particularly impressive, it’s smooth and cushioned and feels more premium than the price suggests. And with a quiet cabin, it’s a peaceful place to be even at high speeds.

The range is estimated at 300 miles so it’s a long-distance option for most drivers. Charging is 130kW and the battery can go from 10% to 80% in 31 minutes, a key feature for drivers who want convenience and minimal downtime at the charging station.

Innovative Interior
KIA has gone all out on the interior of the EV3, combining modern tech with practical design. The tri-screen dashboard is the standout feature. Two 12.3-inch screens for the driver display and infotainment and a 5-inch screen for the climate control. While it looks great the 5-inch climate screen is behind the steering wheel which has been criticized for being hard to access. Despite that, the infotainment system is great with intuitive navigation and quick response.

The EV3 also has features usually found in more expensive cars. The heads-up display (HUD) shows essential driving info, speed, and navigation so you can keep your eyes on the road. Heated and ventilated front seats, rear heated seats, and ambient lighting make the cabin more comfortable and cozy. The Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging allows the EV3 to be a power source for external devices, perfect for campers or outdoor enthusiasts.

One of the more controversial design choices is the floating armrest instead of a traditional center console. The armrest has a sliding table, a feature that looks cool but may not be as practical as a storage bin. While it opens up the cabin and feels spacious, some drivers may miss the convenience of a storage bin.

Technology and Driver Assistance
KIA is pushing the boundaries of driver assistance technology with the EV3. The Smart Regenerative System 3.0 is a key feature. It uses sensors and GPS data to adjust the level of regenerative braking according to driving conditions. The i-Pedal 3.0 allows one-pedal driving, a favorite among EV drivers, with varying levels of regenerative braking that can bring the car to a complete stop without needing to use the brake pedal. Still being fine-tuned but promises to be more convenient and energy efficient.

The EV3 also has adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist which are super useful in heavy traffic. On test drives through congested urban routes, these systems worked flawlessly to reduce driver fatigue and let the EV3 cruise through stop-and-go traffic with minimal input from the driver.

KIA’s native navigation system is worth a mention. It’s clear and intuitive and projects lane diagrams and directions onto the HUD making it easier to navigate unfamiliar or complex roads. Some drivers may prefer familiar apps like Google Maps or Apple CarPlay but the integration with the HUD is a strong case for using KIA’s native system.

Practicality and Cargo
Despite its small size the KIA EV3 has decent cargo space. With the rear seats up you have 16.2 cubic feet of space, but this expands to 44 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat making it great for daily errands and weekend getaways. The EV3’s cabin design also prioritizes practicality with features like rear HVAC vents for all passengers.

Given its daily usability focus the EV3 also makes it easy to use, from the simple infotainment system to its flickability in tight spaces. Whether city streets or highway driving the EV3’s balance of tech and comfort makes it a great option for first-time EV buyers and those transitioning from petrol cars.

Pricing
The 2026 KIA EV3 will start from around $35,000 making it accessible to many. Pricing and packaging details for the US market are still to be confirmed but the EV3 promises to be great value for money with the latest EV tech and a smooth ride.

In summary, the 2026 KIA EV3 is a practical electric car for everyday drivers. Its balance of tech, comfort, and affordability makes it a strong contender in the EV market. Whether on city streets or long road trips, the EV3 delivers a great driving experience that’s KIA’s promise of a well-rounded and high-quality electric car.
